School Site Council and ELAC

While there are a multitude of ways you can be involved with your child's education, one specific way to get involved is to attend and be an active member in on of the communities or councils that Foothill Knolls Academy of Innovation offers.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC)

The purpose of School Site Council is to, “Plan, monitor, and evaluate the activities and expenditures for Consolidate Application Programs operated at the school to improve student achievement (Education Code 64001).”

Education Code specifies that a school improvement plan be developed by a School Site Council (SSC).  The SSC is composed of administrators, teacher representatives, school personnel elected by their peers, and parents/legal guardians of students attending Foothill Knolls who are elected by parents. Foothill Knolls Academy of Innovation has five staff members and five parents/guardians.

This year, Foothill Knolls Academy of Innovation has two vacancies on the 2021/2022 School Site Council.  The SSC meets once a month, except for December, on the fourth Monday of every month at 3:15 pm.  Council members serve two terms. The SSC council members analyze and evaluate the academic achievement plan for all students at the school, assist in the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and approve expenditures in accordance with the goals of the SPSA and Upland Unified School District Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). We will be looking for new members next year since it will be the end of the two year commitment for current parents on the committee.  Please let us know if you are interested in serving on this committee next year.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ELAC)

ELAC is a school level committee composed of parents, staff and community members. These members are designated to advise the school including the SSC of English Learner programs and services. Each California public school with 21 or more English learners must form an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC).

Foothill Knolls Academy of Innovation’s School Site Council (SSC) voted last year to combine both SSC and ELAC. Each school year, a subsequent vote will need to take place for the combined committees. Currently, Foothill Knolls has one ELAC member that is also a member of the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). This committee member reports back to the SSC.
